What counts as revenue leakage in a clinic?
Revenue that was earned but never collected. The four biggest sources are: balances never collected after service, appointment slots lost to no-shows, procedures performed but never billed (charge capture), and discounts or write-offs given outside policy.
How much leakage is normal?
Clinics that have never measured it typically find 8-20% of billed revenue earned but never kept - that is the collection gap, unbilled work and off-policy write-offs combined. No-shows sit on top of that as unsold capacity rather than lost billing, which is why this calculator reports the two separately before adding them.
Is all leakage recoverable?
No, and any tool claiming otherwise is overselling. This calculator applies conservative recovery rates by source: charge capture is largely a process fix and mostly recoverable, collection gaps are partly recoverable with disciplined follow-up, and no-shows can only be reduced, not eliminated.
