Abnormal and critical results

A result outside the reference range is flagged. A critical result is held — it is not released to the patient until a clinician has opened it.

  1. The result arrivesCompared against the reference range for the patient’s age and sex.
  2. Abnormal is flaggedVisible to the ordering clinician, listed for review.
  3. Critical is heldNot released to the patient. It stays on the unread list and the time it has been sitting there is shown.
  4. A clinician opens itOnly then can it be released, and the release is recorded against their name.
